Actor Baba Ijesha's conviction affirmed

The Court of Appeal in Lagos on Friday, affirmed the judgement of a Lagos State High Court, which sentenced Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, also known as Baba Ijesha to five years imprisonment for sexual assault on a minor. Justice Folashade Ojo, delivering the court’s unanimous judgement on the case found the Appellant, Baba Ijesha guilty on counts 4 and 5, of indecently touching a minor and sexually assaulted her. Baba Ijesha was arraigned on a six-count charge of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by penetration. He was found guilty and sentenced to five years imprisonment in 2022 by the Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court. Justice Taiwo exonerated him of the offence of sexual assault by penetration which deals with allegedly sexually assaulting the minor by penetration with his car key seven years ago and attempted sexual assault by penetration during another encounter with the minor on April 22, 2021

An Ondo State based Gospel Musician, Yemi Adeola has passed on. Yemi Adeola was an evangelist, and minister known for her inspiring and uplifting songs and performances. Some of his works include, Annual Praise Concert,My Praise to the Great Healer among others. Though the cause of her death is still sketchy as of press time, an broadcaster, Bisi Ajiboye, popularly known as Sogigun on Saturday announced the musician’s death on his Facebook page. He writes, “Yemi Adeola was Kind hearted, beautiful in and out. When we spoke last week you never say goodbye! 😭 “In my experience of overs the years, I have never seen something shocking and sad like this in my life.” Yemi Adeola hailed from Isarun in Ifedore local government area of Ondo state.

Singer Davido Drags Baby Mama, Sophia Momodu To Court Over Daughter’s Custody

  In a bid to claim custody of his first child, Imade, International award-winning singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has sued Sophia Momodu, the mother to court. In an originating motion filed by his lawyers, Dr Olaniyi Arije, Okey Barrah and others, at the Lagos State High Court, dated April 17, 2024, Davido is praying the court for “an order granting joint custody of Miss Imade Adeleke to the applicant.” In the alternative, the singer prayed to the court for “an order granting to the applicant unfettered and unrestricted access to Miss Imade.” Davido narrated that though he had a relationship with Momodu that led to the birth of their child on May 14, 2015, the relationship had ended some years ago “while we resolved to take care of our child as biological father and mother.” Davido said, “That it is on record that I have been responsible for the payment of all the school fees of my daughter to provide her with the best education possible and to meet all her education

While Nigerian Afrobeats powerhouse, Rema, was dazzling at the Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Spring-Summer Show during Fashion Week in Paris on Tuesday, his global hit ‘Calm Down’ was plucking trophies at the 2024 ASCAP London Music Awards. ‘Calm Down’ snagged the coveted Song of the Year and Top Streaming Song awards. The song’s co-writers and co-producers, Michael Hunter aka London, and Andre Vibez were also credited as winners. The wins bring Rema’s American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, ASCAP’s awards tally to three; the most by a Nigerian/African artiste. Rema is the most awarded African artist in 2024, with six awards won so far. He has won 1 Trends Awards in Brazil, 1 iHeartRadio Music award, 1 ASCAP Pop Music award and 2 ASCAP London Music awards. This newspaper reports that ‘Calm Down’ recently became “the first Afrobeats song in history to earn over 1 billion on-demand streams in the US.” 

Nigeria's Cultural Icon, Femi Esho, Passes On

The Chairman of Evergreen Musical Company, Chief Femi Esho, has passed away at the age of 77 after a brief illness. The family confirmed his passing on Monday. Esho, also known as Baba Esho or Baba Musician, was a significant figure in the Nigerian music industry. He is also the Founder of the Evergreen Music Heritage Foundation. Until his death, Baba Esho was a mentor to many in the Highlife music scene and played a vital role in preserving and promoting various Nigerian music genres like Highlife, Juju, Sakara, Apala, Afrobeat, and more. The burial arrangements will be announced by his family soon.

Terry G: How Wizkid Made Me Take Down Our New Song

  Nigerian singer Gabriel Oche Amanyi, popularly known as Terry G, has revealed that his colleague, Wizkid’s legal team, contacted him to take down his song ‘Mary Jane’ from digital streaming platforms. Speaking in a recent episode of the Afrobeats Podcast, Terry G admitted that he didn’t get clearance from Wizkid’s team before going ahead to release the song, which appeared to have been recorded years ago. “I didn’t clear the song I made with Wizkid [‘Mary Jane’] because, in my era, we don’t clear songs; we do collaborations based on love. The lawyers have reached out to me to take the song down,” he disclosed. “To be honest, we’ve got to be professional and do paperwork. Because if that doesn’t work, nothing will work. So trust me, I have pulled down the song. For the platforms that are yet to take it down, I will make sure it is taken down on those platforms, too, soon.”

Grammy: Portable throws shades at Davido after meeting in America

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, has called out his colleague Davido for allegedly giving him ‘bad advice’ during their recent dinner in the United States. The ‘Zazu’ crooner claimed that Davido, who signed to Sony Music, advised him against joining the label, urging him to sign with Empire instead. Portable alleged foul play, saying he is also aiming for a Grammy like Davido yet the DMW boss is asking him to join a label that might not influence the award for him. Speaking during a recent Instagram Live session, Portable said: “You are signed to Sony Music, but you’re giving me bad advice in America to get signed to Empire and collect advance. Nollywood mourns as Veteran Actor ‘Sule Suebebe’ passes on

Veteran Nollywood actor, Dayo Adewunmi, popularly known as Sule Suebebe, is dead. The Yoruba top actor died in the early hours of Wednesday at an undisclosed hospital in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The news of his demise was broken on Wednesday by a popular Ibadan-based cleric, Pastor Ademola Amusan, a.k.a. Agbala Gabriel, in whose care the late thespian had been for some months. Announcing Suebebe’s death, Agbala Gabriel wrote on his Facebook page, “It’s a pity, Baba Suebebe died at hospital this morning. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.” An undisclosed ailment brought the late actor in touch with Pastor Amusan who through his humanitarian outreach programme on Facebook page raised financial support for the deceased. In a viral video, Suebebe, who plied his trade in the Yoruba speaking sector of the movie industry, admitted that he once lived a reckless life when he was younger.

A blogger, Tosin Silverdam, in a post on Instagram claimed that Aunty Ramota had undergone the BBL surgery to enhance her appearance.
